What Is an Appraisal?Buying a house can be the largest financial decision most may ever make. It doesn't matter if where you raise your family, a seasonal vacation property or a rental fixer upper, the purchase of real property is an involved transaction that requires multiple parties to make it all happen. Practically all the participants are quite familiar. The real estate agent is the most recognizable face in the exchange. Next, the bank provides the financial capital required to finance the transaction. And ensuring all aspects of the exchange are completed and that a clear title transfers from the seller to the buyer is the title company. Appraisals begin with the home inspectionTo determine the true status of the property, it's our duty to first complete a thorough inspection. We must see features hands on, such as the number of bedrooms and bathrooms, the location, living areas, etc, to ensure they truly are present and are in the shape a typical person would expect them to be. The inspection often includes a sketch of the floorplan, ensuring the square footage is accurate and illustrating the layout of the property.
